Jolene Klabunde is a professional dyslexia consultant and tutor in Denton, Texas. As a fully-credentialed classroom teacher, she taught kindergarten, first, second, and fifth grades in California and Texas. She is trained as a Barton Tutor, certified at the Masters Level. She is also Level 1 Certified in Handwriting Without Tears. Jolene specializes in teaching reading, spelling, and handwriting to children with dyslexia and dysgraphia.
Her training includes graduate-level coursework in “Tutoring People With Dyslexia” and in “Screening for Dyslexia.” Jolene has over 3000 hours of tutoring dyslexic learners as well as experience in screening for dyslexia. After demonstrating her understanding of all ten levels of the Barton Reading & Spelling System, in a practicum-like setting, Jolene received Masters Level Certification as a Barton Tutor by its own developer, Susan Barton. The Barton Reading & Spelling System is influenced by Orton-Gillingham, approved by the California Department of Education, research-based, and qualifies as a “best practice” method for teaching children with dyslexia. Combining her teaching skills with her understanding of the Barton System, Jolene offers individualized and systematic instruction for children with dyslexia, producing results that can’t be matched in the typical classroom setting. Her students affectionately call her “Mrs. K.”
